1950 Mercury Eight Sport Sedan, 4-door!
A very rare car in incredibly fine condition.
One of the few remaining in its original condition.
Not a convertible or a cutback, unlike many 1949–1951 Mercurys.
Mercury was, after all, Ford’s flagship, and this one is equipped with a 4.2-liter Ford Flathead V8. It runs like a dream with its 3-speed manual transmission featuring an overdrive gear, and it’s a fantastic joy to drive!
Dual exhaust system. Radial tires with wide white walls. A stainless steel “gangster cap” from Comet Skyshield that gives the car a really cool look!
Everything works, including the gauges, heater, fan, and interior lighting.
The car has recently been serviced with oil, filters, etc…
The Mercury Eight is best known from the Hollywood film *Rebel Without a Cause*, where it was driven by James Dean. It has become a cult favorite among car enthusiasts and collectors. This model was the most important in the company’s history.
All Mercury bodies were shared with Lincoln rather than with Ford, as had been the case since 1941. The front fascia and grille were unique to Mercury, giving the model instant recognition.
It is painted in a lovely, period-appropriate shade of beige, with whitewall tires and a matching beige/brown interior.
One of 132,082 four-door sports sedans built for 1950—a car just as attractive today as when it rolled off the assembly line in 1950!
A very nice car from the early ’50s—charmingly chunky with curves in all the right places—it gives off a very “fun” and pleasant vibe!
